Ed Byers

Manager, Media Relations

Ed Byers is Manager of Media Relations at Medical Mutual of Ohio. He is responsible for managing Medical Mutual’s relationship with the news media.

Byers joined Medical Mutual in 2004 and previously held the position of senior media relations specialist.

Prior to joining Medical Mutual, Byers served as news director and morning news anchor for Nationwide, Metromedia, Metropolitan, Infinity, Jacor and Clear Channel radio stations in Cleveland and Detroit in a broadcast journalism career which spanned more than 30 years. In addition to radio, Byers also worked at the ABC TV affiliate in Youngstown and was a contributing writer for the Youngstown Business Journal. Byers began his journalism career with the Warren Tribune-Chronicle and radio station WHHH in Warren, Ohio while a student at Youngstown State University.

Over the years, Byers’ broadcast news departments consistently won Press Club of Cleveland, Regional Radio-TV News Directors Association (RTNDA), Associated Press (AP) Ohio, Michigan, regional and national awards for best regularly scheduled newscast, best news documentary, best sports and best news writing.

Currently, Byers is in his second term as president of the Press Club of Cleveland. He is a past president and vice president of the Ohio AP Broadcasters Association and is a 2003 inductee of the Ohio Broadcasters Hall of Fame. Byers is also a member of the Cleveland chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA).

The father of two Eagle Scouts, Byers is a registered leader with the Boy Scouts of America and is the recipient of numerous council honors, including a national award for volunteerism from the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America in Dallas, Texas.
