PROMEDICA HEALTH SYSTEM JOINS MEDICAL MUTUAL OF OHIO NETWORK
Toledo, OH – In a move that expands access to healthcare for thousands of northwest Ohioans, ProMedica Health System has joined Medical Mutual’s SuperMed Network.
The agreement means that Medical Mutual’s 200,000 Toledo-area members will be able to obtain services at The Toledo Hospital, Toledo Children’s Hospital, Flower Hospital and Bay Park Hospital, and approximately 250 outpatient facilities at the highest benefit level allowed by their health plan. Additionally, Toledo-area members will also be able to access the services of the ProMedica Cancer Institute and the ProMedica Orthopaedic Institute. This agreement is in addition to the contracts Medical Mutual currently has with ProMedica’s Defiance Regional Medial Center and Fostoria Community Hospital. The new agreement is effective Jan. 1, 2008.
ProMedica joins Mercy Health Partners in the SuperMed network, making both major Toledo area health systems available to Medical Mutual members. Mercy Health Partners includes St. Anne, St. Vincent, St. Vincent Children’s and St. Charles hospitals.
Approximately 250 physicians employed by the ProMedica Physician Group are also affected, some of whom are already members of Medical Mutual’s network. This new agreement expands physician access in a wide range of specialties to Medical Mutual members.
Kent Clapp, Medical Mutual’s chairman, president and CEO, said this agreement is not only going to open up access for Medical Mutual’s members, it is also good news for the business community.
“With both major Toledo health systems in our network, Medical Mutual is going to offer the broadest access with what we project to be the most competitive rates in the market,” said Clapp.
“We already have the strongest hospital and physician network in Ohio,” said Kevin Lauterjung, Medical Mutual vice president of Healthcare Finance and Network Management. “The addition of the ProMedica Health System and the additional doctors in the ProMedica Physician Group provides our members even more options for care and convenience.”
