Medicare Advantage: HMO vs. PPO

Medical Mutual offers both health maintenance organization (HMO) and preferred provider organization (PPO) Medicare Advantage plan options. These plans let you stretch your healthcare dollars with plan premiums starting as low as $0 and affordable out-of-pocket costs.

Compare an HMO Plan to a PPO Plan

MedMutual Advantage HMO and PPO plans have similar benefits, but you should know the key differences before choosing a plan.

HMO Plans  PPO Plans
HMO plans offer affordable, cost-effective healthcare options when utilizing our large network of providers.

While HMO plans often cost less than PPO plans, they require you to use in-network providers for services to be covered. Exceptions are for emergency care, out-of-area urgent care or out-of-area dialysis.

PPO plans provide access to our large network of providers, but also offer the flexibility and coverage to receive care from out-of-network providers.

These plans generally cost more, and services obtained outside the network will usually result in higher out-of-pocket costs.
