Short-Term Plan Design and Features

Our short-term plans let you pick the length of your coverage, have different deductible amounts and include plan options with or without copays. In addition, our plans feature:

  • Low, affordable monthly premiums
  • Access to our large network of providers and hospitals
  • Coverage starting the day after you enroll
  • The option to cancel your plan anytime without penalty
  • Extended coverage to your family members and dependents under the age of 26

Is Short-Term Insurance for Me?

Short-term plans may be right for you if you’re:

  • Between jobs and waiting for your new coverage to begin
  • Turning 26 and no longer eligible to be on your parent’s insurance
  • Graduating college
  • Looking for coverage outside of the Open Enrollment Period and don’t have a qualifying life event1
  • Under 65 and do not need coverage for pre-existing conditions

Important Things to Keep in Mind

Short-term plans do not cover pre-existing conditions and are medical underwritten. If you are looking for more comprehensive coverage, an Individual and Family plan may be right for you.

We also offer dental and vision plans that cover many preventive and major services that can strengthen your health coverage from your short-term plan. You will have the option to add this coverage when enrolling.

This coverage is not required to comply with certain federal market requirements for health insurance, principally those contained in the Affordable Care Act. Be sure to check your policy carefully to make sure you are aware of any exclusions or limitations regarding coverage of preexisting conditions or health benefits (such as hospitalization, emergency services, maternity care, preventive care, prescription drugs, and mental health and substance use disorder services). Your policy might also have lifetime and/or annual dollar limits on health benefits. If this coverage expires or you lose eligibility for this coverage, you might have to wait until an Open Enrollment Period to get other health insurance coverage.
