Paula M. Sauer

Vice President, Care Management

Paula Sauer is Vice President of Care Management at Medical Mutual of Ohio Family of Companies. She is responsible for all aspects of the Company’s Care Management department, which ensure appropriate utilization of healthcare services and a match between patient needs and the level of care delivered.

Since joining Medical Mutual in 1986, Ms. Sauer has made strong contributions in the areas of utilization management, medical review, clinical network development, health promotion and care management. She has been instrumental in developing Medical Mutual’s disease management and wellness programs. She can also be credited for establishing the Company’s Health Promotion programs designed to help members maintain good health and obtain high-quality care. In addition, she developed programs designed to encourage health initiatives among employees while reducing individuals' health risks. Under her direction, Medical Mutual’s PPO products were the first in the country to receive Full Accreditation by the National Committee for Quality Assurance. Before her promotion to Vice President in 1999, Ms. Sauer was Director of Care Management and Quality Management.

Ms. Sauer became a Licensed Registered Nurse in 1983. In 1987, she earned her bachelor’s degree from Baldwin-Wallace College and in 1995 received her Master of Business Administration from Ashland University. She is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board for Managed Healthcare Executive magazine. She is also a recipient of the YWCA Women of Professional Excellence and a 2008 graduate of the Leadership Cleveland Class. She is also a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ). Ms. Sauer previously served as a board member of the Epilepsy Foundation and the American Diabetes Association.
