Prescription Drug Program
Medical Mutual's stand-alone drug product is administered through Medco, a pharmacy benefits manager (PBM). Medco has demonstrated its ability to provide a high-quality
pharmacy network, integrated with an efficient mail-order pharmacy, Medco By Mail. A generic drug program is also available. These programs combine to create a comprehensive, managed
prescription drug benefit program that controls costs and emphasizes quality of care.
Medical Mutual researched and developed a new drug program called SuperMed Script, which encompasses three components to help control escalating drug costs.
The specific differences between SuperMed Script and other three-tiered plans we offer are:
1) SuperMed Script features a refined formulary. Some of the brands you would find on our current “preferred prescriptions” formulary will be moved to the third-tier or non-preferred level. All covered medications will continue to be available under SuperMed Script’s “Rx Selections” formulary, but some will have an increased copayment requirement. The difference in copays between the formulary and non-formulary brands will be a minimum of $20.
2) Use of Medco By Mail is recommended for maintenance medications.
3) SuperMed Script includes a “patient pay the difference” component for generics.
