SuperMed HRA

SuperMed HRA is Medical Mutual’s™ Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) program. These self-funded accounts (regardless of medical plan funding) allow employees to become more informed consumers by enabling them to see how the money is spent and how quickly they move into their share of the deductible. Informed employees tend to ask their providers more questions about their healthcare, which allows them to manage their annual, predetermined dollar amount more wisely. With SuperMed HRA, Medical Mutual offers seamless HRA processing within the core claims processing systems and pays providers directly.

How does SuperMed HRA benefit the employer?

SuperMed HRA, an employer-funded account, gives employers the flexibility to set up an HRA that suits their needs. This includes giving employers the option to decide if all or a portion of the account balance may be rolled over annually. In addition, employers are not required to pay up-front or prefund the account, unless they choose to do so. The employers have control over HRA funds, e.g., they decide if all or a portion of the account balance may be rolled over annually. An HRA approach offers more flexibility in plan design, control over funds and account payout rules. (With Health Savings Account (HSA) funding, the employer loses control once the deposit is made.)

How does SuperMed HRA benefit the employee?

SuperMed HRA allows the employees to see their account balances, thus providing an incentive to be smarter healthcare consumers. (Balances are shown on EOBs, on My Health Plan and when Customer Service is called.)

What plan designs are offered?

Employers may elect up to three combinations of funding the deductible – giving them more flexibility in sharing the deductible portion of the plan with the employee. The following can be offered in any combination and in any order under a high deductible(Availability depends on group size):

  • Health Reimbursement Account
  • Employee deductible
  • Payout split (any %) of the health reimbursement account and employee deductible

These options will be available in addition to the other plan features already in place, such as:

  • Incentive deposits linked to wellness activities can also be incorporated
  • First-dollar care on preventive care benefits
  • Roll over combinations/caps of any account balance from year to year
  • Network only HRA payout
  • Seamless administration – Medical Mutual pays providers for all items covered by the HRA or insurance once the deductible is met
  • EOBs show HRA balance for members
