SuperMed HMO
Medical Mutual's SuperMed HMO and HMO Health Ohio are managed care products for all employee healthcare needs. The SuperMed HMO plan was established in January 1995 to service the Northeastern Ohio
area, with coverage in Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit, and Trumbull counties. Its network of PCPs and specialists mirrors that of its sister PPO and POS products. Established in 1978, HMO Health Ohio serves all
88 counties Ohio with a network that blankets rural and urban areas.
Every HMO member selects a PCP from our panel of family practice physicians, internal medicine practitioners, and pediatricians. PCPs have the responsibility for providing care, plus arranging and coordinating the overall healthcare of members.
Both plans emphasize the importance of a strong, collaborative relationship between a member and his or her PCP. These physicians
are specifically trained to help their patients maintain good health, to identify and effectively treat routine health problems, and to refer patients to the appropriate specialist if a more serious problem is identified. They have knowledge of each patient's medical history,
and that, plus their in-depth understanding of the workings of the healthcare system, enables them to help each member get the exact care they need when they need it. For this reason, any care (except
emergency, mental health and substance abuse, and ob/gyn office services) not performed or authorized by a member's PCP, is not covered under the HMO system.:
HMO programs are based on wellness and preventive care. Under SuperMed HMO and HMO Health Ohio, members are permitted to self refer to
a network ob/gyn physician of their choice for all covered office-based obstetrical and gynecological services. The product also offers a comprehensive set of benefits including preventive care, i.e.,
well baby, immunization and physicals; mental health services; and emergency physician and hospital care.
