SuperMed Plus
Medical Mutual's SuperMed Plus plan is the first preferred provider organization (PPO) in the United States to earn Full Accreditation from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), an independent not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of America's healthcare. This preferred provider product features the SuperMed Classic hospital network, plus a network of physicians that are designated by Medical Mutual to provide the highest level of professional services. Physician selection is based on objective and quantifiable performance data that address both price and utilization of healthcare services.
The SuperMed network of preferred providers currently consists of over 6,400 primary care physicians and more than 12,000 specialists statewide. If employees choose to receive care from a provider outside the SuperMed Plus network, Medical Mutual will pay a reduced level of benefits.
Medical Mutual's SuperMed Plus product features a network of approximately 178 hospitals with which we have negotiated multi-year contracts. These facilities became part of our managed care network after an extensive quality review of information regarding patient satisfaction surveys, infection rates, and morbidity/mortality levels.
Network hospitals offer our customer's rate discounts that are over and above those negotiated with Medical Mutual's Traditional contracting hospitals. When a member uses a network hospital, eligible services are paid at the maximum level, less any deductible or co-payment amounts, if applicable. If a non-network hospital is selected, benefits are paid at a lower level. Emergency services are not subject to non-network sanctions.
