SuperMed Professional

This product features the SuperMed network of physicians along with Medical Mutual's extensive system of contracted hospitals. Our physician selection is based on objective and quantifiable performance data that address both price and utilization of healthcare services.

The SuperMed network of preferred providers currently consists of almost 5400 primary care physicians and more than 8500 specialists statewide. If employees choose to receive care from a provider outside the SuperMed Plus network, Medical Mutual will pay a reduced level of benefits.

Medical Mutual has developed a network comprised of many of Ohio's most respected healthcare professionals. This network provides an extensive range of specialists and family physicians dedicated to quality, cost-effective healthcare. The features which we believe will make SuperMed Professional attractive to employees include, but are not limited to, the following:

· Freedom of choice in a broad primary care panel which includes physicians in general practice, family practice, internal medicine, pediatrics, and obstetrics/gynecology.

  • Access to a wide range of specialty services -- from neonatal intensive care to cardiovascular services, neuroscience and cancer treatment.
  • The program does not feature a gatekeeper model; primary care physician consent is not required. No referrals are required when obtaining services within the panel.
  • Providers are required to submit all claim forms
  • Benefits are available from non-panel physicians, subject to a non-network co-payment.
  • Authorization can be secured for services which are not available within the panel.

With SuperMed Professional, members have complete freedom in choosing a hospital. Moreover, members enjoy the security which prohibits contracted hospitals from billing members in excess of our contracted payments. Questions on claims are handled between the hospital and Medical Mutual. Contracted hospitals submit claims directly to Medical Mutual which relieves members from completing claim forms. In Ohio, Medical Mutual has contracting agreements with 183 participating hospitals out of the 190 available statewide.
