People are at the heart of who we are at Medical Mutual — and among the many reasons we’ve been the Ohio hometown health insurer for more than 90 years. Beyond supporting the day-to-day operations of our business, our team members take great pride in volunteering and partnering with local organizations that make a meaningful difference in our communities.

One of those long-standing partners and customers is College Now Greater Cleveland, which administers more than 100 scholarship programs, including Medical Mutual’s Rick Chiricosta Employee Scholarship Program. More than 30 Medical Mutual team members volunteer with College Now’s mentoring program. Among them is Tia Kline, Training and Performance Coordinator, who was recently recognized by Cleveland TV station WKYC for her decade-long commitment to guiding students through college and beyond.

Having once received support from the Cleveland Scholarship Program — now part of College Now Greater Cleveland — Tia’s journey from scholarship recipient to mentor is a full-circle moment. Tia describes mentorship as both her “passion work” and her “heart work,” noting that being mentored not only helped shape her career, but also gave her a sense of purpose.

“I have my personal mission, and that is to be a community resource,” Tia told WKYC. “That’s what I think about with mentorship. I want to be that person for whoever wants to learn from me.” Gail Epstein, Manager, Customer Care Learning and Performance, said Tia has been with Medical Mutual since 1989 and is the team's “go-to person.”

“Tia is always willing to assist her team, the Company, our members, and the community. I’m so happy to see that her kindness, empathy and the coaching that she does with College Now are being recognized,” Gail added.
