From Classroom to Community: Medical Mutual and Kent State's Public Health Partnership in Action

In April, Kent State University’s College of Public Health marked 15 years of advancing public health education, research and community outreach at a time when communities across Ohio and the nation are navigating increasingly complex health challenges.
Medical Mutual is proud to be a partner in the college’s growth, supporting programs that help connect academic learning with real world community impact. A prime example of this partnership is Mobile Flashes, an initiative designed to provide public health students with meaningful, hands-on experience by offering screening and wellness services in communities across the region.
These students recently helped conduct a comprehensive health needs assessment for adults ages 65 and older — the first initiative in the region focused specifically on this population. The resulting community health data is now available to hospitals and health partners, helping inform care, identify gaps and better address the needs of older adults.
“Our partnership with Kent State’s College of Public Health is about giving students meaningful, hands-on learning opportunities, supporting innovative public health education and research, and helping improve prevention, access and health outcomes for the communities we serve,” said Jonathon Fauvie, Manager of Content, Communications and Public Affairs at Medical Mutual and a Kent State public health alumnus. “As the College celebrates its 15th anniversary, we at Medical Mutual are proud to also celebrate the strength of the work we continue to do together.”
