How Medical Mutual Navigates Members Through Unexpected Healthcare Challenges with MedMutual CARE

Whether we’re heading somewhere new or unsure of the best route, many of us turn to GPS to get there. Patty Bush, benefits supervisor for Solon City Schools, a Medical Mutual member through the Stark County Schools Council of Governments, found herself charting unfamiliar territory — not on the road, but in the middle of a healthcare crisis. A district employee had experienced a sudden, life-altering medical emergency, and their out-of-town family, unfamiliar with the local healthcare system, had turned to Patty for help.
They were overwhelmed and had to make decisions quickly because their family member could no longer live independently. Patty wanted to support them but wasn’t sure where to begin. That’s when she reached out to Medical Mutual and learned about the Clinical Ambassador Relationship Experience program, better known as MedMutual CARE.
Within hours, a dedicated team of nurses, pharmacists and health plan experts stepped in. The CARE team, as it is known, became the family’s guide, coordinating medical transportation, identifying in-network skilled nursing facilities and walking them through available community resources. Patty was relieved to see how thoroughly the CARE team handled each step, offering clarity and compassion in moments of uncertainty.
Reflecting on the experience, Patty said that while the situation was complicated, knowing Medical Mutual was involved made all the difference in helping the family move forward.
