Three Ways Going Paperless Improves Your Health Insurance Experience

If you’re used to receiving your health insurance information by mail, making the switch to digital documents – aka “going paperless” – might feel like a big change. But the truth is the transition is much easier than you might expect. Paperless options are designed to simplify your life, helping you stay organized, informed and secure, all with added convenience at your fingertips.
What “going paperless” actually means
“Going paperless” means your health insurance documents are delivered digitally instead of through the mail. The same information is sent faster, more securely and all in one organized place. You’ll still receive items like your Explanation of Benefits (EOBs), Summary of Benefits and Coverage, and other Medical Mutual publications, like this Healthy Outlooks newsletter. Everything stays stored in your My Health Plan member portal, where you can review, download or print at any time
Paperless is safe for your health insurance information
Physical mail can be difficult to track, can be misplaced or damaged, and, in some cases, stolen. Digital documents are protected through security measures like password‑protection and encryption, a technology that scrambles your information so only authorized users can read it. Digital files can also be safely stored in multiple locations, giving you added protection and peace of mind. And unlike paper records, you won’t lose access to them in the event of a fire, flood or other disaster.
Paperless makes it easier to manage your health insurance
Going paperless keeps all your health plan information in one organized, easy-to-search place, making it simple to find what you need at a moment’s notice. Medical Mutual members can access up to 36 months of EOBs, download documents or review benefits without waiting for physical mail to arrive. And because everything is available on the device you prefer — your phone, tablet or computer — staying on top of your coverage feels more flexible, convenient and stress‑free.
Going paperless means you can still have physical copies
Going paperless doesn’t mean giving up paper altogether. Even after switching to digital documents, you can easily download and print them whenever you prefer a physical copy. You can also reach out to request a mailed copy when needed. Certain items, like member ID cards, will still arrive in the mail.
