Ray Mueller is Medical Mutual’s executive vice president and chief financial officer, a position he accepted in August of 2012.
Previously, Mr. Mueller served as the Company’s Senior Vice President of Finance and Corporate Controller, a position he held for almost three years.
He originally joined Medical Mutual in 1986 as a Senior Financial Analyst in the Western Division based in Toledo. In 1990, he became an Accounting Supervisor for Medical Life Insurance Company, then a wholly owned subsidiary of Medical Mutual. In 1992, he became the Manager of External Financial Reporting and subsequently assumed additional responsibilities for renewal underwriting in 1997.
Mr. Mueller left Medical Life in 1998 to become Assistant Vice President and Controller of Victoria Financial Corporation, an insurance holding company specializing in non-standard auto insurance. In 2003, he returned to Medical Mutual as Director of Finance.
In 2006, when Medical Mutual prepared to return to the life insurance business through Consumers Life (now MedMutual Life), Mr. Mueller accepted the position of Director, Life Operations. He was a key member of the leadership team that developed the infrastructure to re-enter the life insurance business in 2008.
Mr. Mueller earned a bachelor’s degree in Finance and a master's in Business Administration from the University of Toledo. He became a certified public accountant in 1991.
A member of both the American Institute of CPAs and the Ohio Society of CPAs, Mr. Mueller has earned an FLMI (Fellow, Life Management Institute) designation.
He serves as a board member of the Great Lakes Science Center and has been appointed Chairman of the Audit Committee for the Downtown Cleveland Alliance. He is a former board member of the American Heart Association’s Great Rivers affiliate and chairman of the Heart Association’s 2014 Cleveland Heart Walk.
In 2014, Mr. Mueller was honored by Crain’s Cleveland Business as Greater Cleveland’s Chief Financial Officer of the Year.
