Rick Chiricosta is Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Medical Mutual of Ohio. Before his appointment as CEO in January 2009, Mr. Chiricosta served as President of the Life Group for Consumers Life Insurance Company, where he managed development of the infrastructure to facilitate Medical Mutual’s reentry into the life insurance business in 2008. He also served as Medical Mutual of Ohio’s Executive Vice President for Mergers and Acquisitions, responsible for the financial aspects of Medical Mutual’s strategic transactions.
Mr. Chiricosta originally joined Medical Mutual in 1986 as Controller of the Western Division. In 1989, he became Chief Financial Officer for Medical Life Insurance Company, then a wholly owned subsidiary of Medical Mutual. He held that position until 1998, when he left Medical Life to become Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for National Interstate Corporation, a specialty property and casualty insurance company. In 1999, Mr. Chiricosta returned to Medical Mutual as Vice President of Finance. In February 2009, he was named President and Chief Executive Officer and was elected Chairman in 2013.
Mr. Chiricosta earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Toledo in 1978. He became a Certified Public Accountant in 1980 and in 1993 received his MBA from Bowling Green State University.
A member of both the American Institute of CPAs and the Ohio Society of CPAs, Mr. Chiricosta has also earned a FLMI (Fellow, Life Management Institute) designation.
Mr. Chiricosta serves as secretary of the board of directors for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He is a member of the executive committees for the boards of the Greater Cleveland Partnership and the Cuyahoga Community College Foundation, Vice Chair of the board of the Kidney Foundation of Ohio, and a member of the Cuyahoga County Early Childhood Education Partnership Council. Mr. Chiricosta was co-chair of the Greater Cleveland Food Bank’s 2019 and 2020 Harvest for Hunger Campaigns and was co-chair of the 2012 United Way of Greater Cleveland campaign. He is a past President of The 50 Club of Cleveland, is a graduate of the 2006 class of Leadership Cleveland, and was inducted into the Northeast Ohio Business Hall of Fame in 2011.
