MAT/Substance Abuse

Substance abuse is a nation-wide epidemic, and many individuals have been impacted throughout Ohio. Over the last year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported a 2.8 percent decline in the number of heroin and prescription opioid overdose deaths in the United States. However, the report also reported an increase in drug-related deaths not attributed to opioids, including cocaine and other stimulants.

Here at Medical Mutual, we’re dedicated to helping our members impacted by substance abuse. We offer a variety of substance abuse treatment program options and help members locate covered providers in our network.

Buprenorphine is used in medication-assisted treatment along with counseling and behavioral therapies to help people dealing with substance abuse reduce or quit the use of opioids. Buprenorphine can also be used as part of a recovery treatment plan to reduce the risk of relapse.
