Jared Chaney

Jared Chaney is the Chief Communications Officer and Executive Vice President of Medical Mutual of Ohio.

He is chief advisor to the Company regarding the internal and external communications aspects of business decisions and is specifically responsible for the Strategic Communications division, which consists of Multi-Channel Marketing & Advertising, Public Relations, Government Relations, Social Responsibility, and Employee Communications. He is also Chairman of the Company’s political action committee, MMO Pac.

In addition to his communications responsibilities from 2010 to 2015, Mr. Chaney served as the Company’s Chief Marketing Officer, responsible for all aspects of Sales, Marketing, Underwriting and Customer Relations.

Prior to joining Medical Mutual in 1997, Mr. Chaney was Senior Vice President and General Manager of the San Francisco office of Hill and Knowlton, one of the largest public relations agencies in the world. Between 1990 and 1993, he left Hill and Knowlton to establish the San Francisco office of DDB Needham Public Relations.


Mr. Chaney has more than 38 years of public relations and advertising experience. He served four years in the Army as public information officer and post spokesman at Fort Gordon, Georgia, then moved into public relations at Fireman’s Fund Insurance Companies in San Francisco. He joined the public relations firm Carl Byoir & Associates in 1981 in Los Angeles, which was later acquired by Hill and Knowlton. During his career, Mr. Chaney also worked with advertising agencies J. Walter Thompson and Foote, Cone and Belding.


Mr. Chaney is a graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno, with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. He is also a graduate of Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program. He is the winner of numerous public relations industry and advertising awards, including the 2011 Sales & Marketing Executive of the Year.


He is a member of the board of trustees for the Cleveland Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, where he serves as board secretary and is a member of the executive committee. Mr. Chaney is also a member of the board of trustees and serves on the executive committee of the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission. He previously served on the boards of the Urban League of Greater Cleveland, the Greater Cleveland YMCA, the Cleveland Pops Orchestra, the Greater Cleveland Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the Cleveland Leadership Center. He is also a graduate of the 2002 Leadership Cleveland class.  He was chairman of the 2010 Greater Cleveland American Heart Association Heart Walk.
