Employee Engagement

Medical Mutual offers opportunities to engage employees year-round with DEI efforts such as educational programming, paid time off to volunteer, employee-led Business Resource Groups and inclusion training. Our goal is to foster an inclusive environment with an understanding that Medical Mutual is strongest when we encourage and value everyone’s diverse backgrounds, experiences and perspectives.

Workforce Recruitment and Development

Medical Mutual understands the importance of recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce. This begins by building a pipeline through college programs developed in collaboration with organizations and academic institutions across Ohio. More than half of the participants in these programs are from racially and ethnically diverse populations. Secondly, Medical Mutual ensures focused recruitment strategies are in place, committed to interviewing at least one racially diverse and one female candidate when recruiting for professional positions, and then develop and engage diverse talent once they are hired. These efforts have resulted in Medical Mutual being 28% racially diverse, which is 27% more diverse than the population of the state of Ohio.

Community Support

Medical Mutual invests both dollars and human resources in the communities where we live and work. In 2022 we donated nearly $6 million to nonprofit and community organizations as well as logged nearly 3,000 volunteer hours helping local nonprofits strengthen our communities. Medical Mutual executives hold leadership roles on 43 nonprofit boards, many of which focus on or support diversity, equity and inclusion through their own mission statements. We also use our voice and influence to advocate for racial and social justice within our communities. We have come together with other organizations in declaring racism a public health crisis and are fully committed to addressing social determinants of health head on.

Supplier Diversity

Medical Mutual sets organizational goals to increase our diverse supplier base. We focus on the following to assist with those goals: define areas of opportunity, utilize multiple databases and resources to identify potential vendors, regularly track and benchmark our progress, and participate in procurement professional meetings with peers to share diverse suppliers, as well as best practices.

    Medical Mutual has a long history of partnering with Ohio-based nonprofits to support, develop and expand a wide variety of free and low-cost services in the communities we serve. These partnerships played a key role in the development of MedMutual Resource Connect — an online tool that connects Medical Mutual Care Navigators, members and their families with organizations and services that can lend a helping hand.
