Feeling your best starts with two essential appointments you should make with your primary care provider (PCP) each year.

  1. Your annual physical exam
  2. Your Medicare Annual Wellness visit

While these appointments sound similar, they are different and both play an important role in helping your PCP identify potential health problems before they become serious. In 2021, MedMutual Advantage members can receive both visits at no out-of-pocket cost.

Annual Physical Exam

An annual physical exam includes a hands-on exam performed by your doctor, nurse practitioner or a physician’s assistant. This is an important visit to review your general health, any new concerns, and set up a plan of care. This visit includes:

  • A review of your medical and family health history
  • Height, weight and blood pressure checks
  • Checks of your heart rate and breathing
  • A complete physical exam
  • Vaccines and preventive screenings

Starting Jan. 1, 2021, all MedMutual Advantage members can receive an annual physical with a $0 copay.

Medicare Annual Wellness Visits

At an Annual Wellness Visit, also known as a Medicare Wellness Visit, you will learn how to adopt behaviors and make choices that keep you healthy. The focus will be on having important discussions rather than a physical exam. You will learn tips on how you can take charge of your health to prevent disease or help prevent it from getting worse.

During this visit, your provider will ask you questions about your current well-being and your family’s health history to create a personalized prevention plan. Your provider will have you complete a Health Risk Assessment to:

  • Evaluate your current health and level of daily activity
  • Assess your risk factors
  • Evaluate your behaviors and positive lifestyle choices
  • Review and update family health history
  • Review your current providers and medication history
  • Screen for memory problems
  • Plan for and schedule preventive screenings

You can schedule an annual wellness visit and annual physical exam once every 12 months at no additional cost to you. These are two separate appointments and should be scheduled separately.
