Embracing Differences to Make a Difference for our Members, our Community and Each Other

Employee Engagement

Medical Mutual offers opportunities to engage employees year round with DEI efforts, such as educational programming, paid time off to volunteer, employee-led Business Resource Groups and inclusion training. The goal is to foster an inclusive environment knowing that Medical Mutual is strongest when we encourage and value everyone’s diverse backgrounds, experiences and perspectives.

Workforce Recruitment and Training

Medical Mutual understands the importance of recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce. This starts by building a pipeline through our college programs where more than half of the participants are from racially and ethnically diverse populations. We also ensure focused recruitment strategies are in place, commit to interviewing at least one racially diverse and one female candidate when recruiting for leadership positions, and then develop and engage diverse talent once they are hired. These efforts have resulted in Medical Mutual being 28% racially diverse, which is 27% more diverse than the population of the state of Ohio.

Community Support

Medical Mutual invests both dollars and human resources in the communities where we live and work. In 2022 alone, we donated more than $4 million to nonprofit and community organizations. In a typical year, Medical Mutual employees log nearly 6,000 volunteer hours helping local nonprofits strengthen our communities. Medical Mutual executives hold leadership roles on 23 nonprofit boards, many of which focus on or support diversity and inclusion through their own mission statements. We also use our voice and influence to advocate for racial and social justice within our communities. We have come together with other organizations in declaring racism a public health crisis and are fully committed to addressing social determinants of health head on.

Supplier Diversity

Medical Mutual sets organizational goals to increase our diverse supplier base. We focus on the following to assist with those goals: define areas of opportunity, utilize multiple databases and resources to identify potential vendors, regularly track and benchmark our progress, and participate in procurement professional meetings with peers to share diverse suppliers, as well as best practices.
